Undisclosed Tower — Penang

Undisclosed Tower — Penang

Challenging the need for structural strengthening through rigorous engineering assessment.

Concerns over potentially overstressed columns in a 39-storey residential tower in Penang prompted an independent structural assessment. The rigorous review examined design loading assumptions, compliance with relevant design codes and the considered application of code provisions to achieve structural adequacy and design efficiency.

Engineering evidence over unnecessary intervention

The assessment demonstrated that the structure had adequate capacity, establishing that strengthening was unnecessary. The findings avoided potentially extensive remedial works and their associated cost and disruption, illustrating the value of rigorous engineering assessment before committing to structural intervention.
