Ohr / EXPERTISE

Engineering across new and existing structures.

Good structural engineering matters on every project, whether a straightforward building or a technically demanding structure. We bring an understanding of structural behaviour, materials and construction to develop solutions appropriate to each project's needs, constraints and ambitions.

Our work spans concrete, steel, timber, masonry and fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP).

Tree of Tales

PETRONAS 45th Anniversary | Temporary Pavilion

Commissioned as part of PETRONAS’ 45th-anniversary celebrations, Tree of Tales was a temporary pavilion constructed from modular, demountable fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) cubes.

The interconnected cubes formed a load-bearing structural FRP system, supporting the pavilion without a separate structural frame.

The pavilion was designed, fabricated, tested and constructed within just eight weeks, with Ohr responsible for its structural engineering design.

02 / WHAT WE DO

Building structures

01

Geotechnical and structural engineering

Structural and geotechnical engineering for new buildings and special structures, including foundations and retaining structures. We consider ground conditions, structural form, materials, buildability and coordination with the architectural design and other disciplines.

02

Independent design review

Independent technical appraisal of structural designs, design assumptions and proposed engineering solutions.

03

Design optimisation

Refining structural arrangements, member sizes and material selection to improve material efficiency, buildability and coordination, without compromising structural performance or the architectural intent.

04

Design support for specialist contractors

Structural design and technical support for specialist contractors, including non-standard structural systems, materials and construction requirements.

05

Civil engineering

Civil engineering within relevant structural engineering commissions, including roads and drainage, earthworks, slope remediation and retaining structures.

Structural Forensics

06

Structural appraisal

Assessment of the condition and performance of existing structures and relevant geotechnical elements to inform decisions on continued use, intervention or redevelopment.

07

Building conservation

Engineering assessment and interventions for the retention and continued use of existing building structures, with due consideration for their original construction.

08

Adaptive Reuse

Assessment of existing building structures for proposed changes in use, altered loading and architectural additions, with strengthening design where required.

09

Structural defect and failure investigation

Investigation of cracking, deformation, deterioration and structural failures to establish their causes, assess their significance and inform appropriate remedial measures.

10

Remedial design

Design of structural repairs and strengthening measures informed by the findings of assessment and investigation.

03 / TOOLS & METHODS

Tools & Methods

Engineering judgement, supported by advanced methods.

Our engineering is grounded in first principles, an understanding of structural behaviour and considered engineering judgement.

We use computational analysis, parametric modelling, scripting and automation to investigate structural behaviour, explore design alternatives and refine solutions with greater precision.

These tools expand what we can investigate and achieve. They support, rather than replace, the technical thinking and judgement fundamental to good engineering.

04 / OUR APPROACH

How we approach engineering

Technical expertise is only part of good engineering. How we apply that expertise — through creativity, collaboration, intellect and care — shapes the outcomes we achieve.
