Shaping a place for recovery.
Living Waters was proposed as a retreat in Serendah where children affected by trauma and loss could play, receive support and spend time in a safe, welcoming environment. The brief brought together spaces for play, art and counselling, with sheltered areas connecting the building to its grounds.
The structural engineering sought to complement the minimalist architecture, keeping the geometry and member sizes to a minimum while supporting the atmosphere of a place for play and recovery.
Slender columns form the building’s visible skeleton, giving the pitched-roof spaces a light, open character.
The structure was kept simple and straightforward to control cost while preserving the architectural proportions and the welcoming atmosphere of the retreat.
