Understanding the condition of an ageing timber structure before refurbishment.
The initial appraisal examined part of the resort’s interconnected timber bedroom blocks to help plan a wider refurbishment. Visual inspection, measured member sizes and preliminary structural checks were used to distinguish condition defects from questions of structural capacity.
The appraisal considered timber members, steel connection plates and concrete column bases together. Particular attention was given to moisture-exposed interfaces, where local deterioration can compromise otherwise serviceable structural elements.
Visual inspection, measured sizes and preliminary checks helped identify repair priorities and matters requiring further investigation. The appraisal supported refurbishment planning; it did not certify the entire resort.
